Aha! Adventure - Green River, Utah

Dates: April 26- May 5, 2024 (if you are driving or coming in the van)

April 27- May 4, 2024 if you fly to Salt Lake City

Cost: $2450 plus gst

Start the season with a warm trip down south in the canyons of the Green River in Utah.  This is a stunning river with red rock canyons and spectacular hiking. We have relaxed days with easy paddling.  A couple of layover days are planned in the schedule for hiking and exploring.  A few of our stunning hikes will take you up Bowknot Bend, 5 Window Arch on the rim of the canyon and up the long winding Trin-Alcove Canyon.

There will be a pre-trip meeting via Zoom.  After you register, you will receive an email when this will occur.  At the pre-trip meeting, you will meet your group and we will discuss clothing selection, food planning, packing techniques, meals and travel logistics.

**You will need a valid Canadian passport for the trip to go into the USA

All of our Aha! Adventure trips are "community catered".  All participants and guides take their turn providing and cooking breakfasts and suppers on the trips. Everyone looks after their own lunches and snacks. This is a fun way to share, try new meals and learn how to bake and cook in the backcountry. Guides will help at every meal and give you lots of assistance!

Prerequisites: No experience necessary.  Guides can teach you what you need to know on your trip.  You should have an average fitness level.

Cancellation Policy:  A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to register. The balance is due 30 days before the trip start date. No refunds on or after this date. We recommend trip cancellation insurance.

Itinerary:

Apr 26:  7am departure from Calgary in the van and canoe trailer.  We plan to camp along the way and we will aim to camp at the KOA in Pocatello.  This is a 10 ½ hour drive from Calgary.  We will stop to eat and you can purchase food along the way.

Apr 27:  We will get going early in the morning and grab breakfast on the go.  It is a 5 hour drive to the town of Green River.  If you plan to fly to Salt Lake City, you need to arrive by noon. We will plan to stop and buy groceries along the way. We hope to get to the town of Green River before supper.    We will go to the Tamarisk restaurant around 6pm. Website: http://www.tamariskrestaurant.com/

We will stay in Green River State Park for night.

Apr 28:   We will set up a shuttle in the morning. It will be a 3 hour round trip to Mineral Bottom, so we will have time to sort out our gear in the morning.  The boat launch is not far from where we are camping.  We will start our group meals here for breakfast.

We will get on the water by noon this day and start our adventure down the Green River!  We plan to camp around Salt Wash for the night.

April 29/30:  Camp at Trin–Alcove Bend and spend two nights!  This is a great canyon for hiking so we will plan to have a layover day here for exploring!

May 1: Camp close to Bowknot Bend.  Here we can hike up high and see great views of the bend.

May 2: Camp around Two Mile Canyon.  We will have lots of time to hike and see a natural arch.  We hope to have a layover day here.

May 3:  We will hike up the rim to the spectacular 5 window arch!

May 4: Short paddle to Mineral Bottom where we will take out in the morning.  We will load up the van and trailer and start our drive back!  If you are flying from Salt Lake City, we will drop you off on the way. We will hope to make it to Dillon, Montana.  (KOA there with showers!) There are some hotel options as well if you prefer.

May 5:  The plan is to drive the rest of the way to Calgary.  It will be an 8-hour drive back (not including stops).

EMERGENCY EVACUATION AND TRIP CANCELLATION: In rare cases, if you have an emergency and need to be evacuated from the trip, you will be responsible for any extra charges.  The quickest way to get off our remote trips is via floatplane or helicopter and if we contact these companies directly for the quickest service, you will be responsible for the expense.  To ensure that there are no surprises, we recommend that you get evacuation insurance.  An evacuation could be very costly in remote locations and in the USA, so we recommend that you are covered through your credit card or another plan.  One option available is Tugo Insurance at:  https://www.tugo.com/en/travel-insurance/canadians/.  You may also want to consider purchasing trip cancellation insurance if for some reason (i.e. illness) you are unable to go on the trip.  If cancellation is required at the last minute, you will need to have trip cancellation insurance. This will protect yourself and Aha! Adventures and allow us to offer great trips into the future.
